“And you may ask: what does it mean? What do the stars mean? What does the wind say? Where are the clouds going?”

A London-based contemporary painter, Megan is an alumna of the esteemed Turps Studio Programme, an exclusive residency that cultivates emerging talent through mentorship and experimentation. She also holds a BA in Drawing and Printmaking from UWE Bristol. Her work has graced notable artistic enclaves, with exhibitions spanning London, Bristol, and Ghent—reflecting her emerging prominence within the contemporary art scene.

At the heart of Megan’s practice lies a fascination with the essence of being. Influenced by Zen philosophy, she channels her reflections into paintings layered with pigment and dispersion stains. Her work carries the weight of dualities: the unconscious flow of thought versus the clarity of meditative stillness. Through her process, Megan has developed a distinct non-representational language—a convergence of colour, mark-making, and textured surface.

Megan at Work

Megan Wheatley’s work is a quiet dialogue—a resonance for those attuned to the subtleties of existence. Her paintings evoke a grounding presence amidst the fluidity of an ever-shifting world. Through a practice rooted in balance, Megan explores the delicate interplay between restraint and expansiveness. Each stroke feels intuitive, her process free from rigid planning, allowing her work to unfold as naturally as a breath.

For Megan, painting is more than a medium; it is a meditation. Each canvas becomes a space to cultivate awareness, explore sensation, and engage with life’s intrinsic sensitivities. Her commitment to an evolving practice sees her continually challenging the boundaries of materiality, philosophy, and expression.

Through Megan Wheatley's work, we are reminded that art, like life, is not about the destination, but the grace found in the journey.
