Held in Space

In June 2025, BANDA Gallery partnered with Colnaghi to present HELD IN SPACE, a poetic installation celebrating women-led art and design.

Set within Colnaghi’s historic St. James’s gallery, the exhibition reimagined the space as a living home, pairing rare works by female artists with collectible design pieces by pioneering women and Banda’s studio. Each room offered an intimate dialogue between art and interiors, memory and material, concealment and discovery.

The Exhibition

This collaboration with Colnaghi is about more than beautiful objects; it’s about honouring the legacy of women in art and design. We’ve created a space where stories, emotion, and craftsmanship converge, and where Banda Gallery can step forward as a cultural voice in that conversation.

'Held in Space' was designed to be experienced as a typical Banda-designed home rather than a traditional exhibition. Colnaghi’s historic gallery was gently transformed into a series of lived-in spaces: the reception became a quiet study, the main gallery a layered living room, and the lower ground library a dining area.

In the study, a pleated armchair by Banda Design Studio’s women designers sits beside a sculptural side table and tray by Grace Prince. The corridor features a pair of stools by Lina Bo Bardi and an upholstered bench by Banda’s female-led team, their presence quiet yet striking. In the library, Charlotte Perriand’s Dordogne chairs line the room with understated elegance.

The main living space is anchored by a deep navy L-shaped sofa by Banda Design Studio, accompanied by another of Prince’s textured side tables and tray. Each piece contributes to a layered, lived-in narrative shaped by women’s design voices.
