Venus and Adonis - Anton Byrne-Carter X Banda Gallery

This special collection, created in collaboration with our Artist in Residence, includes a contemporary reimagining of Venus and Adonis, a mythological theme famously depicted by Titian and Rubens. Stripping the narrative to its emotional core, the artist uses deep browns, golden ochres, and ethereal greens to evoke passion, longing, and fate. Their figures dissolve into a storm of blended hues and fleeting strokes, capturing the fleeting nature of desire and loss.

By embracing abstraction over literal form, this work invites viewers to feel rather than see, experiencing the tragedy of Venus and Adonis beyond time and representation. Smoky, swirling textures suggest movement, while wisps of lighter tones hint at figures emerging like fading memories. It is both a homage to and a deconstruction of classical beauty, asking what remains of a legend when only emotion lingers.
