“It's not my intention to give a complete picture. I want the viewer to meet the work halfway—to bring their own memories, their own references. These paintings are fragments, suggestions. It’s up to you to piece them together.”
Still Life with Fading Light

Venus and Adonis
Anton Byrne-Carter
In collaboration with Banda Gallery, 2025
Banda Gallery is beyond thrilled to present three new works by the brilliant (and ever-witty) Anton Byrne-Carter. Born in Northwest England in 1989, Anton isn’t just an artist we admire he’s become one of our own. He’s the one we call when we need a laugh, a pint, or a painting that stops time in its tracks. And he always delivers.
The making of
Anton’s work lives somewhere between the past and a dream—between the grandeur of the Old Masters and the fleeting nature of memory. Think Greek myths retold in a whisper, baroque drama with the volume turned down, Dutch floral vanitas seen through half-closed eyes. He doesn’t paint what he sees; he paints what lingers—those hazy, shifting impressions that memory warps and reshapes every time we summon them.
In this latest trio of works, Anton invites us into his world: bold, blurred, and beautifully unsteady. It’s art history with the edges smudged, the rules loosened, and a wink to those who know. Step in, soak it up, and let your own memories do the rest.
